The Six Foundations

The Siftio Framework is built on six interconnected foundations: Identity, Boundaries, Governance, Accountability, Privacy and Sustainability.

Each addresses a different aspect of a trusted digital community. Their value, however, comes from considering them together. Identity without accountability provides limited trust. Boundaries without governance have limited meaning. Privacy cannot be separated from the way a community is structured, operated and sustained.

The six foundations therefore form a single framework rather than a collection of independent principles.

Identity

Trusted communities begin with meaningful identity. Identity establishes who participates in a community and provides a basis for trust, relationships and responsibility.

Within the Siftio Framework, identity is considered in the context of the community and the relationships that exist within it.

Boundaries

Healthy communities have boundaries. They help define who belongs, the purpose of the community and the context in which people interact.

In digital communities, clear boundaries can provide structure that is often absent from open online environments.

Governance

Communities need a clear basis for how they are operated and how decisions are made.

Governance considers the responsibilities, policies and oversight required to maintain the purpose and integrity of a digital community as it develops over time.

Accountability

Trust depends on responsibility. Participants, operators and those entrusted with governing a community should be accountable for their actions and decisions.

Accountability helps connect identity, behaviour and responsibility within the community.

Privacy

Privacy is treated as a foundation rather than an optional feature.

It considers how a digital community respects personal information, individual choice and the relationships between its members. Privacy should be reflected in the nature of the environment itself, not simply addressed through policies after the environment has been created.

Sustainability

A trusted digital community must also be capable of sustaining itself without compromising the principles on which it was built.

Sustainability considers the long-term operational and economic foundation of the community, including whether the interests of those operating it remain aligned with the interests of those it serves.

Designed to Work Together

No single foundation defines Siftio.

Identity, Boundaries, Governance, Accountability, Privacy and Sustainability are intended to reinforce one another. Together, they provide a foundation for thinking differently about how trusted digital communities can be designed and sustained.

The Siftio Framework defines how these principles are applied in practice. Those methods and implementation structures remain proprietary.
